If I had the ambition I'd tell you all. Make the story short, I haven't read a blog in 6 months or so. I've barely even found the time to play cards during the same time.

My spiral started with a conjunction of poorly played cards and poorly timed life. So much has happened to me since I last posted. I still have the will to learn and the will to play. I already knew I didn't have the will to write that Hoyazo does. I also don't have the will to be recognized as Waffles does. I don't have the skill that Fuel55 has. I often wish I had the gamble that Cracknaces has, but I only have a little gamble, a little skill and a little will.

My will to be recognized is surely weak, but I do have the desire to become a profitable poker player. I'm not sure where the drive went, but I am sure it is back.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-60709675989459807482008-03-24T23:51:00.003-05:002008-03-26T20:48:30.663-05:00BBT3 - Another $2k package up for grabsRight from Al:

This was just posted on the Full Tilt BBT promo page, 7 seats weren't enough so they're tacking on another $2k Bracelet Package. Details are here.
We should also have out details of the writing contest shortly. How about one more shot at a $2K WSOP* prize package? My downward spiral began with all in preflop KK < AA and I pretty much just spewed the rest of my chips when no steals worked.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-24115428207318698482008-03-19T22:09:00.002-05:002008-03-19T22:24:52.562-05:00Lazy BloggerI am such a lazy blogger. I never make time to write in my blog. I mostly troll around other blogs without giving anything back. So once again I try to see if I can't make some more time to write.

BBT3 is well underway. Lucko has really been on fire the last week or so. BBT3 Leaderboard and ToC winners pages have been updated pretty regularly by Al. I have had a couple decent chances of securing a ToC seat, but haven't really gotten very close yet. Mondays MATH had me going out 4-betting All In with AK only to run into ChippyMcStacks AA just before the points bubble burst. Tonight's Mookie had me calling sprstoner's 3-bet All In with AA just to lose to a set on the river. I am still in the top 20 on the BBT3 Leaderboard, but am down about $100.

I have had an awful time scoring a $75 token in the nightly token race at 9:45. I have gotten so close, but somehow I get screwed or screw myself. Tonight i was running out of chips as the bubble neared. I was sure I couldn't survive without taking some blinds or doubling up. I open shove ~6bb with K-10 only to be called by A-10. I'm down to 2bb and actually get all folds the next 2 times I push. After the blinds pass I shove from the BTN with 8-9 and am called by the SB with A-Q. O well. I'm sure when I finally to score a token I'll score a few in a row.

Enough complaining for now.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-23755622656684222402008-02-12T11:12:00.000-05:002008-02-12T11:27:04.704-05:00Out of HUC6 in round 2I lost a somewhat long quality HU match to RecessRampage. Again I have no hand histories on my work computer, but there weren't many showdowns to speak of. Neither one of us got too comitted to many pots. Most of the chips passed with well times reraises or post flop raises.

I won the 1st, but couldn't take down the 2nd or 3rd. I got off to a nice lead in the 2nd, but squandered it away. I lost some of my confidence and it showed in the 3rd. RecessRampage raised about twice as many pots as the first 2 and I rarely found any cards to fight back with. When I fought back with nothing he either had a hand or saw right through it.

I somewhat recall 1 hand where I think I played it very poorly and cost me greatly. I think it was in the 2nd one. I checked on the turn with 2nd pair on a double suited board with 2 aces. I led out on the river that didn't fill the flush feeling I had the best hand. Unfortunately I only represented exactly what I had or worse. RecessRampage raised the river and fearing him having an A, i couldn't find the call button. I think I need to either bet the turn or call the river. If he calls or raises the turn I can be done with the hand for cheaper.

Either way a quality match played by RecessRampage.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-88475732754482220792008-02-11T14:16:00.000-05:002008-02-11T21:36:00.707-05:00HUC6 Round 2My first round opponent was Rubbarose. We had a difficult time scheduling our match. We finally started on Sunday around 9pm. I don't recall many of the hands and I don't have the history on my work computer. It was a number of hands before much action. I won a huge pot leaving him only T60 with 15/30 blinds. The next 2 hands were all-in with him winning both of them. The action and chips stacks were constant for a while with him slowly accumulating. I doubled him up again to around T800. He took control for a while and took the chip lead a little while longer without a showdown.

Then came the hand that would end up deciding it. I raised OTB with A-9. He called and we saw a flop of J-8-5. We both checked and the turn was a 7 giving me the double gutter. He put in a near pot sized bet that I called. I figured myself for 11 outs. 3 for the A and 8 for the straight. The river was a 6 and I min-raised his river bet leaving him very little again. This time he would not catch back up and I had taken game 1. He ended up showing J-8 for the flopped 2 pair. I had certainly got lucky to go runner-runner.

Rubbarose then declined the rematch wanting to concentrate on his deep run in the 13.5k and FTOPS #9. He would later bubble the FT of the 13.5k and bubble the $ in the FTOPS event. I guess with the combination of bubbling the 2 tourneys and losing to my questionable turn call and lucky river he decided to not play it out and forfeit round 1 to me.

Next up - RecessRampagejmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-48266733054217811922008-02-04T23:32:00.000-05:002008-12-11T03:23:22.961-05:00MATH was only a tease

Well poker sucked today. I lost 2 buyins at $50nl to 2 and 5 outers on the river. The MATH turned out to be just a tease. I love the 6-max format and it seemed to be working well for me. I had 2 early hands that sent me to the chip lead. One was a boat against surflexus when he turned a straight draw but missed the river. The other was a turned straight from me when emptyman flopped a set and NumbBono caught TPTK on the turn. I didn't capture the first, but here is the second.

I lost my chip lead after TripJax joined the table. The TOC will be giving away a 2008 Main Event Seat. Go check out his site for more details. I wish I could play the Bodonkey more, but with darts on tuesday it's pretty tough. I tried to sign up and just play when I got back last week, but that was just frustrating. I quickly logged in to catch 2 pair from the BB and my connection timed out after I bet the turn. I ended up auto folding. When I got home on my own connection I was down to 15bb and reraised all-in preflop with AQ suited. The original raiser called with KJ and turned a boat. gg me

I may try to bring my laptop to the bar and fire it up if the rest of my team can finish out the dart match. (I'm the captain and one of the worst players on the team so that may not be that hard to come by.)

Smokkee deserves much thanks for setting this up.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-3452540233344313552008-02-04T18:20:00.000-05:002008-02-04T18:37:18.064-05:00HUC 6I have entered the HUC 6. 32 players are inline to compete over the next ~month to determine a winner. It was also the smallest one I think I have played, but satisfying nonetheless. If you are unfamiliar the Bodonkey is a private blogger tournament on Bodog setup by Smokkee. As Hoy commented now I need to win one on a real site. The Bodonkey has a great overlay where they give an extra $600 in tourney credits. If you haven't played it you are missing out on the best value tournament online.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-27862224927738047732008-01-03T20:23:00.001-05:002008-01-03T20:39:27.107-05:002008 Poker GoalsI had been reading some other blogs and their poker goals and thought it would be a good idea to make some of my own. I came up with a pretty optimistic list for myself, but I hope it is reasonable and hope even more to achieve everything on my list. And in no particular order:

Increase my bankroll to $10,000.

Try at least 1 bracelet race on Full Tilt.

Profit from Blogaments for the year.

Play some live cash at a casino.

Take a shot at $1000 nl online.

I really do hope that I can increase my bankroll significantly and $10k seems like a nice goal. I also promised my wife that I would take out $2k if (when) I hit $6k so the goal is kind of $12k. I plan to experience the WSOP someday so why not try to experience some this year. As far as profiting from the blogaments it is really that I would like to play them a lot, but if I keep losing $ I'll end up playing a lot less.

I have never played poker at a casino (with exception of $3/$6 on a cruise ship, but not for long) and I think that sucks. I don't live close to any at all, but at the same time Atlantic City is still only 5 hours away.

And as far as taking a shot at $1000nl I just think it would do wonders for my poker mind to play for a lot more than I ever have before. I appreciate and try to stick with good bankroll habits, but I also think taking a shot above your limits once in a while is good.

Good luck to everyone in 2008.

jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-21906234805458368312008-01-03T20:16:00.000-05:002008-01-03T20:22:59.102-05:00BFFB Was Good to MeI got 3rd overall and 2nd in the BFFB TOC. I really enjoyed Fantasy Sports Live and the BFFB this NFL season. I really look forward to next year. I ended up making about $200 which is nice. I did well in my other fantasy leagues this year as well. I don't know what the $ won is yet, but it should be positive for all the rest besides the BFFB as well.

I really wished I had told my fellow fantasy guys about Fantasy Sports Live. So many days go by that I think of something to write about, but when I get home I either put it off or forget about it. I plan on posting a few of these today while I'm waiting for tonight's Riverchasers.

I'll never be the kind of blogger who posts everyday (or weekday) like Hoy, but I really would like to post more. I especially like to post about poker because it makes me think through some things more than I already do.

I bought an XBOX 360 for myself this past weekend. My friends were all very excited since most of them are on Live nearly everyday. I got Madden, FIFA and Call of Duty 4. It will surely take some time away from poker, but hopefully only enough to not get burnt out and take some time away.

I'll post some more today, but I'll separate the posts some.

Edit: I guess the other post actually ended up before this one.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-55560075323240467982007-12-04T23:30:00.000-05:002008-12-11T03:23:23.141-05:00R.I.P. There are 4 weeks left so anything can still happen.

Onto poker...

Not alot to talk about, but I have been showing a slight profit in $10nl. The stakes are so low and most of the opponents so bad it is hard to get very motivated. I've played a couple $50nl sessions and that has gone well, but I can't afford too much of a down streak there. I really want to work on building my bankroll so I can afford the higher limits.

I haven't played as many BBT2 tournaments as I would have liked, but I have done pretty poorly anyways. I made 1 final table, but have barely made it halfway through any others. A combination of bad luck (like set under set the 3rd hand), bad play (like going broke with A-K on an all low flop), and just not getting anything going. I hope to make a good run tonight in the Mondays at the Hoy. I am off to win a $26 token.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-39620477998533044962007-11-18T10:28:00.000-05:002007-11-18T10:41:10.736-05:00My Blog and I Are Like...

What Classic Movie Are You?
personality tests by similarminds.com

and then this

What Famous Leader Are You?
personality tests by similarminds.com

and then really!?!

Cash Advance Loans

jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-25423521678919773382007-11-17T09:45:00.000-05:002007-11-17T10:09:30.936-05:00Nothing seems to be going right...in poker anyways.

I have watched my bankroll just fall and fall over most of the last couple months. I'm sure much of it is due to bad play but sometimes it doesn't seem to matter how good I get my money in. I haven't really wanted to post about bad sessions or unlucky ones, but maybe I should start posting when I play badly. Maybe that will help encourage me to play better.

It seems sometimes that wanting to win is a sure way to lose. We all want to win, but sometimes I only want to win and not want to play well or want to learn. Playing well and learning should be more important. If I play well and learn how to play better winning will be there.

I have been enjoying playing the BBTwo. I did manage a 7th place, but otherwise I have been mid pack every other time. I can't really afford to play the Mondays at the Hoy, but I still have twice. I enjoyed the 6-man version, but couldn't really get things going.

I need to play some disciplined bankroll building poker. Building my bankroll was high on my list of poker goals for some time. I have really let that slip away. I have been enjoying playing tournaments and even though opr shows me profiting over the last 120 days, most of that was nearly 120 days ago.

I did finally manage to double cash in one of Full Tilt's Daily Double tournaments. I didn't finish very deep in either one though. So I did manage a $38 payout for the double cash plus $19 and $29 for the cashes.

Quick goals:

Post more often to my blog. I think it will help me think about poker in a better mindset.

Only play BBTwo and bankroll building poker. That will be $10 SNGs and $10nl for me.

jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-70817466759828785972007-10-22T20:13:00.000-05:002007-10-22T20:21:59.761-05:00BFFB week 7I came in 2nd this week at the BFFB. If you are reading my blog and don't know about the assortment of weekly blogger tournaments it is time you found out. I am also now up $5 at fantasy sports live. I was really optimistic about my team and easily cruised into first in my 10-man. There is alot of the season left, but I hope I can make a run at the top 3 for the season for some extra $. I have also earned a spot in the Tournament of Champions. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I'm assuming it will be a freeroll during the playoffs. There could be as many as 17 people as 1 can earn entry every week.

I have played very little poker lately. I should get some time to play this weekend. Weekend poker is turning more into Saturday poker since Sunday is for football. I've also obviously not done any posting either. Fantasy football has taken some time, but most of all I just got married and took a cruise for our honeymoon. Even though I spent much less time than my wife or her mother for the wedding it did and still does take up some of my time.

The cruise was fantastic. I would recommend one to anyone. Our ship was the Royal Caribbean, "Freedom of the Seas". It is the world's largest cruise ship. There were tons of things to do, but the dining was the best part. Well, maybe not the best, but I thought they did an excellent job with all the food.

For those of you reading this, but don't know about the Blogger Fantasy Football Battle, you should check it out. You can also see the website Fantasy Sports Live.

I hope to find some more time to get back into poker. I know I will. I'll update on some of my goals when I get a chance.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-41362890465159081302007-08-05T09:26:00.000-05:002007-08-05T09:46:04.141-05:00August 2007 - GoalsFirst a review of my July 2007 goals.

I have grown my bankroll to over $600. This is largely due to my 2 MTT final tables.

I did play above my bankroll a couple times and lost $ every time.

I did not make the $500k. FT has also removed the $1 rebuy super sat.

I also didn't play 100 SNGs.

So not too good on meeting my goals last month. Let's see what we can do for August.

Increase my bankroll to $1000.

Stop playing above my bankroll.

Play the 50/50 twice. I'll obviously have to sat. in.

Profitably play 50 $20 SNGs.

Purchase PokerAce HUD.

So $1000 my be a bit hopeful if I don't play above my bankroll. I hope I can make the 50/50 and cash. Cashing deep in a MTT will help increase my bankroll, but making a final table doesn't come too easy.

I really hope to continue my SNG success. I have moved up to $20 because my bankroll can now handle it. I don't really see much difference in skill level, but I do see more aggression. I have so far done poorly in the 9 I have played. I have cashed 3 times, but they were all 3rd place. I have sharkscoped many of the final 3 and found so many of them to be very losing players. This has become frustrating as I know I am a better player than my opponents, but still going out in 3rd. I know if I continue playing well I'll find some 1st places soon.

I would like to try to start 3 and 4 tabling the SNGs. I think in order to do so I should get PokerAce HUD. If I do more than 2 tables now, my PokerTracker information will be hidden underneath another window.

jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-29555518184470210772007-08-02T14:26:00.000-05:002008-12-11T03:23:23.810-05:00$5 MTT Final Table
I took almost a week off of playing poker. I had some things to take care of and my fiance told me I was playing/reading/thinking poker too much. No big deal.

I returned to playing last Sunday. I had a terrible day. I started by doing something I am trying not to do; I played above my bankroll. I played some $50nl. I can afford to lose $50, but I can't withstand much variance. It was mostly uneventful until this hand.

6-handed

Hero - SB

Villain - BB

Folds around to me and I min-raise with 8-6 spades. BB calls. Flop is 9-7-5 with 2 hearts. I lead $1.50 into the $2 pot. BB raises to $6 and I re-raise to $19. BB shoves and I insta-call with the nuts. BB has J-9 hearts and of coarse he rivers a heart. ugh.

I take a break for an hour or two. I'm not looking to play more cash. I played (3) $10 SNGs and cashed in none. So Sunday sucked.

On to the good stuff.

Monday after work I was ready to redeem my losing Sunday and started off with the $1 rebuy. Always a fun tournament. I had wireless problems on my laptop and to make a long story short I ended up busting and not rebuying during the rebuy period trying to switch between my laptop and desktop. ugh, not a good start.

Just a little bit afterwards I registered for a $5 MTT and a $3 rebuy. I did rebuy more times than I would have liked, but finished something like 32nd of ~650.

The $5 MTT started off great. I quickly built up my stack to ~12k and was among the chip leaders before the first break. Not much seemed to happen over the next 1 or 2 hours and my still 12k stack was very small. I was able to abuse the bubble enough to stay alive, but not much more. I was able to do the same when we got shorthanded going from 3 to 2 tables and then again from 2 to 1. I made the final table 7th in chips.

I really need to double up soon to have a chance. I took a chance calling (2) all-ins from the (2) shorter stacks with 10-10. They showed A-K and A-J and I more than doubled up. I was still only 6th in chips, but I had much more time now. I really just hung around until we were down to 4.

There were 4 left for a while before my final hand.

UTG folds - BTN min raises to 16k - SB calls and I call 8k into a 44k pot with 4-6 spades.

Flop - Ac - 5h - 3s

SB bets 16k

I debated raising with the OESD, but with the original raiser still left to act I thought better. I thought about folding, but I wasn't looking to fold into 3rd.

I call 16k into a 68k pot leaving ~150k

BTN folds

Turn - 5s

SB bets 16k

Great turn for me as I now have OESFD. SB bet is really weak.

I raise to 78k

SB call the additional 62k. Damn I was really hoping to just take it down there and have the chip lead.

River is a brick - 8d

SB checks ??? really?

I shove my last 72k and SB calls showing A-9.

Was I too aggressive? I feel like I represented a 5. Are you calling this turn raise and river bet?

O Well. 4th is respectable and paid $262. I'm going to continue with the SNGs, but I'm going to move up to $20.
jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-74427515742785301672007-07-22T08:42:00.000-05:002007-07-22T09:05:32.218-05:00My First Fifty-FiftyI started off well. I doubled up and won another pot in the first level. In the second level I picked up 10-10 and flopped a set on a J-10-7 board. There were 2 others who saw the flop and I had position on them both. The fist guy shoves for almost 3x pot. The second guy calls all-in. I have them both covered by alot and figure I'm ahead. I make the call to see 8-8 and A-K. So 8-8 catches a 9 on the river for a straight. I'm still an above average stack, but never really get anything going after that. I last 2 more hours and end up shoving back at the button raise. I have A-J and he calls with 3-3. Ugh, I don't improve and I'm out.

I hope to play many more of these 50-50 tournaments. There are a few sats I can afford. I still plan on focusing on the SNGs. They provide me with a good bankroll building opportunity. I think if I can continue playing them well I'll find my bankroll in the $1000's before too long. That being said I need to stop spending my bankroll on too many other things that keep it from growing faster.jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912304013037659478.post-68862955558571883672007-07-21T19:38:00.000-05:002008-12-11T03:23:24.332-05:0050-50 satSo once again I have taken my sweet time updating my blog. I guess that one time I could access my blog from work was a fluke. I haven't been able to since. When I'm home I'm usually much more interested in playing poker than writing about it.

Moving on... I have been playing mostly $10 STT SNG's. I started out on fire, but have cooled off over the last dozen or so. I've played about 25 so far, so 100 is going to probably be out of reach. I haven't decided to start the $20 next month or after I get 100 $10. Either way I look forwards to moving up.

So I decided to try to sat into the Fifty-Fifty. For those who are unfamiliar it is a daily FTP $50 $50k guarantee. I took out 2 people I the first 5 hands. I kept getting good hands and getting people to give me all their chips. Here I am the early chip leader.

I stayed near the top until we got down to about 30 people left. The blinds were getting high and just planned on folding into the $. I didn't fold every hand, but I wasn't risking my chips for many hands at all. Here I open fold A-K near the bubble for the second time.

I was last in chips when we finally broke the bubble. I pushed the next hand and only got like 2 callers. I got lucky and couldn't lose a hand. I out ran K-K with 8-2. I look forwards to the Fifty-Fifty later tonight.

jmathewson_IIIhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13058474054923921246noreply@blogger.com2
